I have always talked about starting my own business but I ‘ve never had the courage to do it. As many of you, I went to school, I got a job, and I worked at someones else business for over two years.
However, the idea of quitting my job came right after I realized that a 9-5 job is not making me happy. I became really anxious and I didn’t know what to do with my life. I was in pain, I disappointed the YOUNG ME. Also, I felt like a quitter because I quit on my dreams and I start working on others dreams. But what made me really quitting was making someone else dream a reality and I had no satisfaction.
I start doing my research and every single article out there was saying to keep my job while I ‘m working at my business and to quit my job when my business can sustain my actual lifestyle. But I had no patience and motivation to keep my job, so I quit it. My plan was simple, all I had to do was to quit my job, to create a freelancing portfolio and to start earning money online. But in reality, this is harder than I thought, that’s why I came up with six steps that you need to follow in order to avoid doing the same mistake. I don’t want you to think that quitting is the best decision for you. You still need money to pay your bills, unless you’re living with your parents and you don’t have to worry about your living expenses.
In other words, don’t rush into this until you have a plan. Here are six steps that you need to follow before you hand in your resignation letter.
Find your hidden passion, if you already got one you are a lucky human
If you already know what you want to do, you’re a lucky person. Most of us have no idea what our hidden talent is.
However, if you don’t know what you want to do, don’t panic. There are plenty of things that you can do to discover your passion. All you need is patience and perseverance. Here are three things that you can do in order to discover your passion:
Get out of your comfort zone
Probably is not the first time you hear this, but trust me, you will discover another world. There is so much fun and it can help you to find your passion. Make a list of things you never did. Then set a place, a date and the time. Then do it!
Return to childhood
Try to bring back in your life the things that make you happy but you almost forgot about it. Growing up is the biggest challenge for a teenager. In order to be accepted in a social group, you probably changed your aspirations. Now is the perfect time to bring to life all those passions. And remember, this is your life, your decisions, no one should have the right to judge you.
Start meeting new people
If you already start doing new activities that take you out of your comfort zone, meeting new people will not be a problem for you. However, do not forget that Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Choose wisely!
Research, research, research
Having access to free information is what I love about this century. We are living in the best period ever but we don’t value the things that we have.Being able to google everything is a dream that came true, and here is why.
If you’re planning to implement one of your ideas the internet is the place where you can find FREE books, FREE audiobooks, FREE tutorials, FREE templates, FREE, FREE, FREE. You can find anything you need FOR FREE. But yet we are too lazy to google it and when someone is asking us why we’re not starting our business our answer is ” I don’t know how to do it.”
You need to stop complaining that you don’t know how to do it because there are thousands of websites and books that are waiting for you to discover them. For example, in the UK the government has its own website (https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business) where you can find all the information you need to open a business.
Now that we agreed that there’s is no reason to not start working on our dreams I want you to go and to do your homework. Start reading everything you find, compare the information, go on LinkedIn and subscribe to groups of business owners, ask questions and finally implement everything you discovered.
Take classes to improve your skills or to learn something new
Every day’s a school day.
Is never to late to start learning a new skill or to improve the one that you already have. Again, the internet is the best place to find what you need. Just google “online classes” and you are going to find thousands, not just one. Also, if your dream is to do performance sports, do it. There are so many examples of people achieving their dreams when everyone said that they can’t do it. Start searching in your city, try to find people with the same aspirations and train your body. You can do it!
And, if you’re thinking that is too late for you to learn something new and you can’t do it, this is just a pretext for you to not start. Studies proved that our brain has plastic qualities and it refers to the “brain capacity to change its structure and its function over a lifetime, in reaction to environmental diversity” In other words, doesn’t matter how old you are, or what background you have. Your brain can always learn something new.
Make a plan and implement it
A plan is a must. Even if you’re planning to learn a new skill, a new hobby, or to start a business. A plan with a place, a date, and an hour is what will help you to have a clear vision of your idea. Take your big goal and split it into steps, and then split the steps into actions, and don’t forget to set up deadlines for each of them. Do small steps every day, be consistent and dream big. Don’t let the obstacles to stop you.
Start earning money
The truth is that you have to be patient. There is no magical key to success. You need to find your own way of winning. Some people start doing freelancing, some people start their own business, some people start writing books and sell them. And whatever you choose, my advice is to stay focus, be honest with you and your customers, partner, suppliers and respect the deadlines. The money will come inevitably.
Quit your job
Here you are. You found your passion, you did your homework, you implemented a plan and now you’re earning money. Guess what?! You’re ready to quit your job! Now, I know that you hate the job you have, and you wish to tell your manager all the things that you hate about your workplace, but DO NOT DO IT!, unless is something really serious and you can actually help them create a better workplace.
